瑪雅長老否定2012是世界末日！！！
太陽報今日刊出這篇譯文，瑪雅人長老否定2012是世界末日之說，地球人還要活多二千幾年才到世界末日，不過洰冇提2012會否出現人類大清洗或提升:
古老的瑪雅文明精通天文，其曆法亦以精準見稱，最早可見於公元前三千多年。人們發現瑪雅曆法只記載至二○一二年十二月二十一日，令人懷疑那天是世界末日。亦有人指那天將會出現相隔二萬五千八百年才出現一次的天文現象，可能引發地震和海嘯等災難。
美國康奈爾大學人員馬丁設立了一個網站，讓人提出天文學的各種問題，她發現有小學四年級生也因末日理論害怕命不久矣。

瑪雅印第安長老貝克斯圖近期經常被問及有關傳說，他表示已受夠了，指末日之說非源自瑪雅。墨西哥考古學家伯納爾亦認為，世界末日其實是西方思想，只是強加於瑪雅文明。他研究過的瑪雅遺址中，有不少刻文提及二○一二年之後的日期，包括四七七二年。

The Maya believe we are living in the fourth world. The first three that were created (all four were created by the gods) failed to support any life. This recent one will end and a new world will be created. But the date isn't December 2012, that's a misinterpretation I blame on the fact that Mayan glyphs are still difficult to read and understand. I'm not going to go into the long explanation because it's very mathematical, and honestly, I don't think anyone here would understand it. The end of the world is projected to be in 4772 CE, so we've still got about 2,766 years left before the end of the world, according to the Maya. 12 December 2012 signifies the end of the b'ak'tun.
Here's a quick lesson on the basic units of the Mayan calendrical system:
kin = 1 day
uinal = 20 kins (roughly the equivalent of our month)
tun = 18 uinals (or 360 kins)
k'atun = 20 tuns (or 7,200 kins)
b'ak'tun = 20 k'atuns (or 144,000 kins)
p'ic'tuns = 20 b'ak'tuns (or 2,880,000 kins)
and the list continues. The Mayan 365 day calendar consisted of 18 uinals of 20 kins each, plus and extra month called Uayeb that was made of 5 kins to create 365 (what a concept).
